5 years and Counting

Today marks 5 years since my wife and I started our journey at Friendship Church. God has done a LOT of amazing things in 5 years. I’m looking forward to many, many more.

Still creating,

Hot or Cold?

Have you ever accidentally drank lukewarm water? Maybe it was a coke, lemonade, coffee, or hot chocolate.  When you drank it, you probably let it sit in your mouth for a moment as you had a moment of regret followed quickly by a “what-do-I-do-now?” moment. It’s already in your mouth. Should you drink it? Or should you spit it out? Either way, I’m sure it was not an enjoyable experience. It was neither refreshing or soothing.

They way you felt about that lukewarm beverage is the way God feels about us when we are not ALL for HIM.

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” [Revelation 3:15-17 NIV]

God desires that we desire Him above any other. That we would be completely sold out to Him.

Hot or cold?

Your response is everything.

Brick by Brick

We are in the process of buying our first home. That’s right, we’ve been evil renters now for almost 4 years. I’ve gotta say, this home buying stuff is a heavy process. I feel like I’m on Double Dare and I just need to get through the obstacle course without getting slimed on. It’s a process. A….slow…..process.

I started thinking this morning, all pastor like, isn’t that just like our walk with God? You’ve heard it said that Rome wasn’t built in a day. The same is true of our faith in Christ.

“—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” [Philippians 2:12b-13]

We got to work this thing out. Brick by brick. Like building a house. Christ is our firm foundation. All we have to do is build, brick by brick.

For a great book on this topic, check out “Hand Me Another Brick” by Charles Swindol.

I thought since today is 3/30, I would share about a passage that we base our worship ministry on. It’s a call for all of us to increase our praise of Jesus; to increase Him in our lives. You’ve heard it said that as Christians, people should see Jesus when they look at us. Well this verse is the anthem of that.

Really easy.

You ready?

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” [John 3:30, NASB]

Simple truth. Hard to live out, but that’s what God has called us to. To make Him known. To make much of HIM with our lives, not much of US.

Art In The Church is Just Music, Right?

For most of us, when we think about the church and art, we think about the church of centuries ago when fine art was the common culture of everyday expression. But if the common church attender today were to be honest about where art is in the church now, we would say, “Maybe, music….i guess??”.

I’m a musician at heart, so I take pride in knowing that the church music seen is thriving. Worship music is getting better and better each day. But where are we in the visual arts? Are they no longer relevant to the church? I thought this was a generation of visual learners. I know I am!

I’d like to hear from you either on Facebook (, Twitter (@dustinpead), or a comment on this blog post about what you think art in the modern church is or should be. Basically, if you could pick one other artistic expression to thrive in local churches across the world, what would it be?

*Keep in mind that there are some great, artisitc churches out there, but it is not the norm as worship music is today. I’m not looking to take away from the worship music, but add to the total worship experience on Sundays.*

Creating with A Click of a Button

I recently endevored into a new musical venture. This venture is one that i have been wanting to pull the trigger on for a while but haven’t for a varity of excuses. Now I’m comitted. With my time & creativity to going to the next level on producing quality music for the sake of God’s Kingdom.

With the help of a great friend and former band mate and his amazing company, I am well on my way to getting back to the roots of creating and producing music.  This has reignited a fire in me and a renewed love for music.

I’m doing this all with a great program (shown above) called Ableton Live Intro. Click on the image above to learn more about it. The best part is how much you can do without breaking the bank.

That’s all for now. Inspired.
